Nigerian singer, Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk professionally known as Iyanya, has been granted bail following the car theft charge by the police. In a recent court hearing, Justice Mobolanle Okikiolu-Ighile on Thursday granted him bail of N20m. Okikiolu-Ighile also ordered him to produce a surety in like sum. He further specified that the surety must have a landed property in Lagos, with a Certificate of Occupancy. Iyanya was also given 7 days to fulfill the term or risk it being revoked.
Recall the police had reportedly filed the charges against the singer back in 2019. Reports reveal the one-count charge marked LD/9024c/201 was filed on March 15, 2019.
Iyanya, however, failed to show up before the court.
Justice Okikiolu-Ighile concluded that the ‘Kukere’ crooner does have a case to answer regarding the allegations. In his words: “I have perused the affidavit and counter-affidavit of the parties; there is a prima facie case of criminal conversion case against him.
There is nothing to show that the defendant will interfere with the proceedings of the case and nothing to show that he will jump bail if granted.” Iyanya was arraigned before the court after he was accused of stealing a Toyota LandCruiser Prado SUV belonging to the Temple Management Company, which he was previously signed to.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
